Play Me, I’m Yours
London, England
December, 2012
As I prepared to depart London last December, piano music filled the halls of St. Pancras International Train Station.  The sound became louder as I worked my way through the station, and I eventually discovered its source: two people playing on a public “street piano”,  installed as part of the “Play Me, I’m Yours” project.
The players weren’t just messing around - it appeared as if they knew there way around a piano pretty well!
Check out more about the project, including people’s videos and photos here.

Piazza Del Popolo in Rome serves as a great place to meet up with people, sit down and relax for a while, soak up the sun, cool off under the shade of surrounding trees or next to the fountains, take in hundreds of years of architecture , sculpture, and design……….

Or, on a warm Sunday in early April, participate in a giant collaborative art project by signing your name or drawing a little something!

To draw the project for Daubeney Primary School, Kinnear Landscape Architects asked directly its little users to imagine the new environment with a series of consultation workshops. The result of this process led to the creation of an experimental playground with stripes, a forest of poles and rotating platforms, improving the behavior of children and encouraging imagination.

Big cities have bustling corridors where saying “hello” would be out of place. But there are plenty of places, even within the most densely packed city, which lend themselves to neighborly acknowledgement: an apartment building, an office, a quieter residential street. After all, the feeling of connectedness is one of the benefits of living in a city. Let’s make sure to utilize it. It’s good for us.

Created during the Bat-Yam International Biennale of landscape urbanism in Israël, the Cans Pavilion utilized that most under-utilized of spaces: an unocupied lot slated for future construction/development. An excerpt from their description:

The combination of “hospitality” and “public space” implies an inner tension. How can people identify with public space and relate to it as if it were their own living rooms?

We approach this question by fostering the participation of residents and visitors in the shaping of their environment, thus leaving their mark and presence on the space.
